This page is about Marilyn Fairhurst, the owner of Shadow Ridge and my family and staff. We have 21 years experience in the horse business. Shadow Ridge Equestrian Center is located in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada and we are a riding school and a residential summer camp for girls.
Both Marilyn and her daughter, Melanie Cobill, teach the adult and children beginner lessons and both are involved in the Summer Camp program. Melanie is also on our show team.

We have 154 acres including lots of trails and pasture for our horses. We have two outside sand rings (a dressage and a hunter/jumper ring), and a large barn. In 2003 we completed our Megadome arena which is 184' x 80'.

Marilyn is originally from England and has been horse crazy from her very early years. Although she rode in England for a number of years as a teenager, it wasn't until her children had grown up that she took it back up. She bought her first horse in 1987 and then bought Shadow Ridge in 1989. Shortly after that the number of horses increased, until now there are 20 horses. Marilyn retired from her full time job in 2003 and now works full-time making the business a success.

Marilyn has two children : Barry Cobill (married to Elaine)
who had their first baby. Benjamin, in June 2007 and a second son, Thomas, in March 2010,

and Melanie Cobill who lives at Shadow Ridge and has her own horses Wisandra (aka Kleah) and Kleah's foal Wyndsong Fantasie (aka Ella). She is a member of the show team and can be found coaching the girls at shows too.
