MOUNTED GAMES

Mounted Games help improve agility, sharpen reactions and develop
rider and horse fitness. They are also a whole lot of fun too.

Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things
1 Corinthians 9:25

From the fun I had in my early days doing Gymkhana in England, I wanted to share these fun times with our campers. So, we have been doing games on horseback every year in our camp program. We are now expanding our interest in Mounted Games (a little more competitive) and are starting to have practices with Terry Vieweg who is Eastern Ontario's ONLY Level I Mounted Games Coach. Terry is also a Level III NCCP Sports Coach which is a huge advantage in Coaching Games and Riding at this Level.

MOUNTED GAMES is a truly unique branch of equestrian sport in which excellent riders on well-trained ponies perform very fast races, exciting for participants and spectators alike. It combines both acrobatics and a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-to-eye coordination, general determination to see things through to the end no matter what, and a competitive spirit, which nevertheless requires an ability to work together with other riders and a willingness to help one another. The original format of Mounted Games was Team Competition, but the games are now also played by pairs of riders and individuals.

Team Competitions - A team consists of five riders and ponies. In each game four out of the five take part, leaving the team trainer the flexibility to select the four best for any particular game.

Pairs Competitions - In pairs the responsibility is shared between the two riders, and it is often easier for two friends to train and compete together, instead of assembling a team of five.

Individual Competitions - Obviously, in an individual competition, the rider is competing without any shared responsibility, and if any mistakes are made the fault is clearly identified (the rider, not the pony - he's only following orders)

Whichever format is chosen, the same general rules apply: no whips, no spurs, no bad or un-sporting behaviour.

Practices are on Saturdays (occasionally Thursdays or Sundays). The cost will be $32 (includes GST) per rider payable to Shadow Ridge. Please call or email for specific dates, time and availability if you would like to attend one of these practices.
