Hi Marilyn Thanks for an amazing week at 'Ladies' camp'. It made me feel like a care-free kid again. I loved every second of it, from the yummy meals (and especially desserts!) to the fun crafts, games, and of course your beautiful horses. The barn kitties, as well as Bandit and Chip were an added bonus! Oh, and I can't forget our field trip to the Tea Room and pretty Perth! Your horses lead a privileged life, and it was great to see how well you know them each as individuals. 'My horse,' Apache was adorable and so enjoyable to ride. I miss her! I never tired of watching the horses come into the barn and find their own stalls. The only problem was that the week went by too quickly. Your whole team was terrific and welcoming, especially Emily - can't believe she's only 14! If all teenagers were like her, our world would be in good hands : ) Thanks again. If things work out, I hope to return next summer. - Stephanie Ng Veterinarian from Burlington, Ontario |

Good morning Marilyn,
No need to ask me if I enjoyed camp; as always, I loved it ! Here is my testimonial.
I spent two whole weeks at the Shadow Ridge camp, a camp that's all about a growing passion between horses and pre-teen and teenagers,
a camp that's 100% horsey, a camp where friendships are founded and are meant to last a lifetime. I have been a witness of these events,
and have even been a part of them. I came to this very camp three years ago, having never really ridden before. I can't express clearly
how sad I was to leave; I loved this camp. So I came back for another week, and another, the next year. I enjoyed the atmosphere;
groups of 8 girls spend the week together, learn to know each other, to share their intense love for, not only horseback riding, but also
the horses themselves, and, most of all, to have fun and make life-lasting memories. The horses make this camp unique; they are loving,
affectionate, well picked-out, and mostly, safe and lots of fun to ride. After all, an equestrian camp isn't a good one without good horses!
The riding exercises and mounted games, not only do they make us enjoy ourselves, but help our control, our posture and confidence on
horseback. Also, the fact that you get one horse for the week increases the bond between horse and rider, making it stronger and stronger.
The counsellors, which are friendly, funny, experienced in riding, very nice and comprehensive, also help us with our riding. The weekly trips
to the lake and tuck shop add a little touch of a different kind of fun to the week that we spend at Shadow Ridge. Good times with the pets and
the horses, unique atmosphere, excellent riding instruction, great horses, delicious food, fun trail ride, memory-making amazing race and,
most of all, a perfect way to spread and share your love for horses and horseback riding. If you are looking for a camp that matches the description
above, do not look any further! Shadow Ridge Equestrian Center is the best!
Thank you for two amazing weeks that I will never forget!

Hi Marilyn Thanks for making my week at camp the best time i have had all summer! I had lots of fun riding, making new friends, playing with the pets and watching many cool movies. Over the week i feel that my riding imporved. Making the crafts was really fun - i especially liked making the frame because i like collecting litle memories in frames like that. Playing the amazing race was tons of fun!! It felt unusual to be trotting around the yard but i was having the best time!! Since this was the first time i had stayed away from home for more then just one night I was a little homesick on the first night but by the end of the week i didn't feel homesick anymore and was sad that I had to leave!! Your meals were amazing and I loved each one. The trail ride was really fun and very relaxing. I can't wait until next year to come back and will be missing all your amazing diners and deserts until then!! The bond between me and Lady definatly grew and i found my seat at the canter getting very good!!! Playing the games was very fun and i especially liked doing around the world. It was so much fun!!! This has to be the best camp I have ever gone to for two reasons 1- You give us a lot of free time so by the end of the week you seem to know everyone a lot (and you have watched tons of movies Once again thanks for an amazing week of camp! - Emily Beach |
Emily Seunik August 2007 |
Dear Marilyn , Thank you so much for a great two weeks of camp at Shadow Ridge. I had a fantastic time.
I met new people and new horsesI will never forget. I learned a whole lot about horses - putting on bandages and jumping boots,
and I learned how to ride better and keep my seat better. I can't wait till next year. Thank you for a wonderful summer.
- Emily Seunik P.S. Thank you for driving me to the bus! Say hi to Marshall and Lancelot for me. |
Kayleigh Gagne July 2006 |
Dear Marilyn , Thank you for making my week at camp very very special. Each year, the camps get better and better.
I was extremely lucky to get Lexington for the week. Even though I left yesterday, I already miss Lexi, the campers, the farm, but most of all you.
Camp was amazing. I already tried the "Chocolate Quesadillas" recipe, but my batch turned out burnt and they weren't nearly as good as Marilyn's.
Note: try "Nutella" on them when you are eating them. It is very yummy. Anyway, I showed my family the crafts we made, and they thought
that they were very cute. My mom and I are going to make the cork horses this summer. We also looked at the pictures. I was very impressed
with them. After my Dad saw Jayde's Miracle, he thought she was super adorable, so I put a picture of her on the background of the computer.
I will also start writing my testimonial soon. It will be 700+ words like you said. Everything was amazing like usual. Thanks a million, billion, trillion.
Anyway, since you are very busy, I will bring this thank you to and end. Looking forward to camp summer '07, Love Always, Kayleigh Gagne P.s I will be on your website every day, and I will always look forward to the Shadow Ridge Revues. |

"Hi Marilyn,
Thank you for letting me come to Shadow Ridge this summer. I had an amazing time and I will come back for maybe 2 or 3 weeks next year.
Here is my testimonial:
At Shadow Ridge, you get your own horse or pony for the week. Shadow Ridge meets different levels of riding.
Whether you are a beginner or intermediate rider, Shadow Ridge is a fun and safe camp to ride and be at. We ride twice a day.
There is a lesson in the morning and fun and games in the afternoon. We get to sponge, tack up, groom, feed and ride our own horse every day.
For all the people who hate barn chores, Shadow Ridge makes it fun! Everything is horse related! Whenever you are not with horses, you are swimming
or petting cats and dogs or hanging out in the barn. We clean our tack after the afternoon ride. We all worked together to make things go faster. Sometimes,
we get to ride in the pasture to cool off the horses. But that's not all, we also get to go on a trail ride. It is very relaxing. After the ride, we let our horses out.
Sometimes you can have quiet time before crafts. For crafts, we did mugs, plaques, room signs and sun catchers (where you paint a pony head with special paint).
We also have really yummy breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We also have a campfire where we roast marshmallows and S'mores. Shadow Ridge is the best.
I rode (and loved) Scottsdale. He is very friendly. Shadow Ridge helped me to improve my riding skills. I learnt lots of other new things, like how to call the horses
with a pig call , how to do a simple change of rein and of course I made a lot of new friends too. It was extremely hard for me to leave.
If Melanie didn't have a crop in her hand, I would have sat on the floor waiting for my parents to drag me out. At first, I thought it was Sunday again, getting dropped off.
But no - the week was over and everyone was giving hugs goodbye.
Maybe even months after you leave Shadow Ridge, you will miss everything. I will miss Ted teaching me to drive a tractor or making me call the horses.
But for sure I will be back next summer for another amazing summer!" - Emily allen |
Audrey White July 2004 |
"Hey Marilyn! I miss camp sooooo much. I have tried two other camps and I have not liked them nearly as much as
I loved Shadow-Ridge. I love how I really got to bond with Sunny and Phoenix, and Sunny was even trotting up to me and following
me around by the end of the week. It was really hard to leave. Being at Shadow-Ridge really improved my riding skills. It was like
being with a second family. The food and desserts were amazing, and not just because I have had really bad camp food at my other
camps! I am so glad that I was there the day before Sunny turned three years old, Shadow-Ridge was a really great experience.
I am definitely coming back next year, maybe for twice, or three times as long as I did before. I barely missed my parents and I am
so glad that we had so much free time and crafts! In Shadow-Ridge you get to get a horse for one week. You take care of it, feed it,
ride it, groom it, etc. I really liked the program because you got to bond with a horse, but if you stayed for more than a week you got
to try different horses. Thank you all for a great two weeks!" - Audrey White |
Sarah Buttle July 2004 |
"Thank you for having such a great camp. I really enjoyed it! You are the best coaches I have ever had. Thank
you Marilyn for being so kind. P.S. Say Hi to Phoenix for me." Sarah |
Katie Mundy July 2004 |
"A quick thank you for making Katie's first "sleep-away" camp a delightful
experience for her. She was truly in her element, and is already counting
the days until she returns! Your hospitality went a long way in setting her
at her ease -- and we are very grateful for that. Thanks so much -- see you again next week." Sue Globensky & Tim Mundy |
Charlotte Jones August 2004 |
"I had a wonderful time at Shadow Ridge. Thank you for letting me come. The crafts were great, the food was great, the horses
were great, you were great, Shadow Ridge is great! I am definately coming back next year. Thank you again for letting me come" Charlotte |
Andrea Ross August 2004 |
"Thank you so much for your hospitality. I enjoyed the camp so much and hope to come back next summer." Andrea |
Erin Cessford July 2003 |
"I am currently 13 years of age and have ridden for 7 years. When I went
to Shadow Ridge I was a bit nervous because it was going to be my very first
time going to this camp and even their barn. When I got there a few other
girls were there as well. As soon as you walked into the house you feel
right at home! Marilyn and Melanie make you feel so comfortable! They are kind
and fun to be with. The other girls were also very nice. Our days were
always filled with fun activites and riding, then after being in the saddle
for an hour or so you go back to the house for a hot home cooked meal! (They
were always delicious!) They have great horses there as well. It was a fun
and memorable camp. After the camp I liked Shadow Ridge so much I went back
for lessons and I still ride there to this present day!!! I would definitely
recommend this camp to girls of all ages! It is a week of riding, crafts,
friends and most of all horses." Erin |
Maeve Jones July 2003 |
hey! My name is Maeve and I'm 13. When i heard about Shadow Ridge from my friend Erin, I looked over the website
and really liked what i saw. Erin and I arranged to come to Shadow Ridge for the 2003 summer. I was a little worried because
the last, and only, over night camp i'd been too was not a good experience, and I didnt know what to expect really.
When I arrived a day or so before the camp, I was pleased to find that we would be sleeping in the house with Marilyn and Melanie.
It also made me feel better that we wouldnt have to get up at the crack of dawn each morning either.
I came to camp with high hopes. I met lots of new friends at camp that made the week realy special. I really found the horses nice
and willing to co-operate. I thought the instruction was really good and I learned tricks that will last me a lifetime.
I plan to, and hopefully will, be back for the 2004 summer of camp for another week of fun and memories. Maeve |
Alex Irwin August 2003 |
Hello Marilyn Camp was fantastic! I recommend it to anyone! Each day at camp, there were exciting activities such as scavenger hunts, horse games, campfires, swimming and many more... Also, the trail ride was very pretty and relaxing. The arts and crafts were amazing; I really enjoyed this aspect of my camp experience. I felt very comfortable during my stay at Shadow Ridge. Marilyn, you were very kind and welcoming. The horses and other animals were gentle and my horse, Gemma was patient and affectionate. During the lessons, I improved opon my skills and learned a few new ones as well. I really believe that I have become a better rider. I especially liked the CD we received; now I will be able to look back on my camp experience and remember it for years to come. I will definitely be returning to Shadow Ridge next summer. Thank you Marilyn! Alex Irwin |
Laura Hansen July 2003 |
To all those interested in horseback riding, Shadow Ridge is by far the
best. Stay for 1 or 2 weeks, whichever you prefer. Ride and take care
of one of many beautiful horses on the ranch. Eat delicious
desserts.(and the food is good too). Take lessons according to your
skill level. You even get to watch movies, horse related or not. Play
games on horseback and more! Trust me, horse lovers will love Shadow
Ridge! This camp is GIRLS ONLY! Ride Shadow Ridge, or you might as well
not ride at all!

Kathleen Kemp July 2003 |
Hello Marilyn,
Shadow Ridge has a true description, it will change your life. My camp week at Shadow Ridge was one of the best weeks I've had in a long time. What's not great about having a week with your own horse and just bonding with that horse. When I went to Shadow Ridge I rode Comanche and I fully enjoyed him. Oh and don't worry about the food cause Marilyn really knows how to cook amazing meals!! I won't lie I was scared at first but it all went away when I got there. Everything was so great. I am definitely going back next year. Kathleen |
Stephanie Taylor August 2003 |
Dear Marilyn I would like to thank you for having Stephanie to your home this summer. She has not stopped talking about it. It is certainly nice to find such good people running a camp of such excellent quality. Keep up the great work and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Doug Taylor |
Vanessa GhoshJuly 2003 |
Hi Marilyn: I really enjoyed my week at Shadow Ridge. Here's some things that I would like people to know: Staying at Shadow Ridge taught me about the many aspects of riding and taking care of horses. We were each assigned one horse for the week so that we could form a sort of bond with our horse. In many ways this was what made the camp unique for me and very fun. The people at Shadow Ridge are kind and the horses are extremely lovable. The horseback lessons were personalized to each person's own riding level. Going to the Shadow Ridge summer camp was a great experience. Vanessa Ghosh |
Keira GarlandCounsellor 2003 |
Hi Marilyn! I think the camps are a lot of fun. Each person gets a chance to bond with one horse for the week and get the feeling that it's their own horse. All the girls that come are really nice to be around and usually everyone becomes great friends. Most of the camp is revolved around the horses, we get to ride twice a day, crafts every day, and lots of swimming throughout the day. The crafts are really neat, most have a horsey theme. I love being at shadow Ridge, everyone is really nice and welcoming. Everyone always says that they can't wait till they come next year because they had so much fun. Keira |
Annie WrightJuly 2003 |
Hello again Marilyn,
I just wanted to tell you Kathleen and I are coming back this summer and are defiantly are looking forward to it! I am not sure when I'm coming,
but I think Kathleen and I are doing what we did last time. (Come and drop off the registrations form, look at your new horses). Thank-you for
letting me have a great time last year. And also for encouraging me to ride horse and get interested in Appaloosas, I love them! I now ride every week.
I ride a male Appaloosas named Cody. He's so cute! I was wondering if I could ride either one of your new horses or Apache. I now can walk, trot,
post trot, canter (working on it), steer and tack up with ease. Can't wait to see the new horses thanks! See you soon.

Lynn AnglehartJuly 2003 |
Hi Marylin! I first wanted to ask you if you could add me to the Revue. Second of all, i wanted to tell you how much i miss you two and all the horses. It's hard to get attached to animals and leave them and not see them anymore but i know they're in the best care with you. I was wondering if you could reserve me a spot for next year's summer camp for week 3 and 4 for a few months until my parents make their decision. thanks again for the wonderful week and for putting up with me, Kathleen and Abbey for that week. hope we keep in touch. Lynn |

Yuka Aoyama August 2003 |
To Marilyn
It has already gone to Ottawa now whether to be my daughter Yuka Aoyama. Then, it was very much looking forward to time
to get along with Shadow Ridge in August. A Japanese house is very small, and a rabbit is only kept. she likes an animal
very much. It is hoping that Canada is added to one of the countries, which like her very much. Hidenori Aoyama |
Sarah Coutellier Bilodeau July 2002 |
Hi Marilyn! I am Sarah Coutellier Bilodeau. I don't know if you remember me. I came 3 weeks at your camp last summer. I write to you because you missing me. I wanted to return back, but now, I have my horse and It is not very possible to bring it because it's a long travel and that is very expensive. Finally, I'm very lucky! My father and my mother felt in love with horse back riding. They bought a horse for them. So, now I am with two young thouroughbreds, one black and the other one chesnut. I named my horse Amadeus ( You know the musician Volgan Amadeus Mozard)(male) and the chesnut (female) Marleedar (Marlee). They are tall : Amadeus ( 16 hands 2) and Marlee ( 16 hands 3). I am really in love with my horses. Now, horse back riding is my big passion! I don't want to go to the competition. I just want to have fun with my horse and have a good relation ship. I like to see your web page. The camp change a lot with your new ring and your horses. Carleton with honours is so cute! When I see all this picture, I want to come and have again a lot of fun! I would like to be there, but I can't have my horse and the camp at the same time. I would like to come next summer because I'm going to be 17 , but I need to work. I have again all the pictures, the t-shirts ... in my bed room. During this 3 weeks, you was like a familly for me. I never regret this experience. It's sure, I have again difficulty with my english, but I know with the time, it will be better. I want to thanks you again and also your girl. You was very nice with me! I didn't know you gave me news by e-mail, because charles@login.com is my father's e-mail. So, I don't have your mails. I am interesting to have your news and if it is possible, to send me at my adress please. Je vous aime beaucoup ( I love you very much) and I will always love you - Sarah- -XxXxX- |
Hilary Van Loon August 2002 |
hello marilyn! thank you for an excellent week at camp! i really enjoyed myself. im writting you for two reasons, the first to tell you that as much as i enjoyed myself, i cannot come back for the next session. my grandmother died while i was at camp. even though it was peaceful, it was sudden and it's hard on everyone. thank you anyways. please tell laurence and angie and keira why i won't be there next week and that im thinking of them. the second reason is for a favour. i left a baby blue zip up the front hooded swetshirt. i think it's in the mud room area - but i'm not sure. i would really appreciate it if you could send it to me by mail. thank you very muchfor a wonderful week and for doing me this favour. i learnt a lot from the both of you. good luck and see you next year. Hilary (keep smiling everyone!!) ps: the pictures on the cd are wonderful!! thank you so much for taking the time to put all that together. they are special memories, not pictures, memories! |
